Who or what inspires you?
Young people! They are incredible, resilient humans. I want to make the world better for them. I had a lot of opportunities growing up, and I want to be able to give them as many opportunities as I can.
I had some incredible people in my life who poured so much love into me. I want to do the same for others.
How do you encourage creative thinking within your organization?
I have a sign in my office that says, “If we are not making mistakes, we are not reaching far enough.” I don’t want to do things a certain way because that’s how we have always done it. I want staff to take risks, challenge themselves, and create new ideas. My job is to listen and help unleash the potential the staff has.
Is there a quote or saying that you live your life by?
“Intense love does not measure, it just gives.” -Mother Theresa
What is one characteristic that you believe every leader should possess?
Humility. Imagine a world where leaders owned their mistakes and apologized for their actions. I think in our world today we need people who are going to look in the mirror first and realize it starts with them. It takes a team to be successful. A leader must be humble to lead and listen to their team.
What advice would you give someone going into a leadership position for the first time?
Enjoy the journey and smile. Make sure to set boundaries for yourself to work when you are at work, and live your life when you are not at work. Work is work, but your life is more important. Make time for yourself.
Why are you a part of the BOOST Leadership Team?
I wanted to be part of the BOOST Leadership Team to grow and improve as a leader. I know I have a lot to learn.
For breakfast, I had oatmeal with flaxseed and a little bit of cinnamon.
