Job Description and Requirements:

​Arts Education Connection San Diego (AESCD) is seeking experienced teaching artists specializing in dance, music, theater, literary, and visual arts to add to its Teaching Artist Roster as part-time employees.

​Since 1963, Arts Education Connection San Diego has delivered a rich variety of arts education programs to San Diego students and communities through performances, workshops, residencies, and professional learning opportunities, connecting young people to their cultural roots and creative wings.

AECSD offers arts education programs to K-12th grade students and their families that engage, elevate, inspire, and transform. We believe that communities thrive through the arts, and that when children learn through the arts, they discover their own creativity and new possibilities for their happiness and success.

WE ARE SEEKING TEACHING ARTISTS WHO ARE:  experts in their craft (dance, music, theater, literary and visual arts), experienced in working with students of all levels (particularly elementary and middle school levels), and prepared to impart their knowledge in different formats, including residencies, after-school, and community workshop programs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Develop and teach California Visual and Performing Arts and National Core Art standards-based educational programs to K-12th grade students that demonstrate the process of an art form, stimulate creative practices, and build art-making skills.
• Present art programs in an authentic and culturally responsive manner and have a thorough knowledge of their history, background, and context.
• Understand, assess, and adapt to the learning needs of diverse student populations.
• Represent ACESD in a positive and professional manner; work collaboratively and communicate clearly with AECSD staff.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIREMENTS: 

• Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge, expertise, and passion for the visual or performing art through your professional artistic practice.
• Can work collaboratively in a school environment and with various school community constituents.
• Possess strong English communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrate a warm, respectful, and trustworthy rapport with students and teachers.
• Maintain availability during school hours with advance notice and flexibility in scheduling.
• Adapt to a wide range of teaching conditions.
• Have reliable and consistent means of communication and transportation.
• Pass a federal-level background check via Live Scan fingerprinting.
• Provide proof of a negative TB test dated within the past 2 years.
• Be willing to follow school district requirements for safety protocols.
• Teaching Artists must routinely lift, push, pull, or carry art supplies, equipment, instruments, and classroom furniture weighing up to 40 lbs. Must also bend, twist, reach, stand, and/or sit for extended periods of time.
• Two years of experience teaching in a public-school environment (preferred).
• Spanish language skills (preferred).
• Experience with English Language Learners and students with special needs (preferred).

HOURS/COMPENSATION

Part-time work: time commitment based on school requests, with compensation determined by the number of sessions booked.
