Current Opportunity: Student Outreach Coordinator, Dell Scholars – Austin, TX

The Position  
The Student Outreach Coordinator will support career services and student retention initiatives for the Dell Scholars Program. The position will work closely with the Dell Scholars Retention Team and the Dell Scholars Career Services Team to build upon existing strategies in support of programmatic outcome goals to see that the Program both graduates as many Dell Scholars as possible while also successfully supporting graduates through their transition into either full-time employment or graduate school enrollment.

This role includes responsibility for supporting existing and future initiatives with a focus on scholar retention and career readiness.  This role requires that the person is based in Austin, TX.

Other primary duties of this role include: 

  • Become an effective peer mentor to Dell Scholars and team member able to directly contribute to the success of the Dell Scholars Program
  • Respond to scholar inquiries via phone, email, text, surveys, and social media and manage data collection (e.g. updating contact information, etc.)
  • Make data-driven decisions to improve student retention and career services outcome goals
  • Identify and implement new ideas and programs that impact student success and increase four-year graduation rates and career placement
  • Advise and develop academic and financial plans for Dell Scholars to decrease student debt and increase persistence/graduation rates

The Person 
The individual will bring experience, wisdom, and energy to this role, along with a strong passion for the mission of enabling underserved students to graduate from college and have successful post-graduation experiences. They will have the utmost integrity and a reputation for doing things the right way. The candidate will be a team player, consummate multi-tasker, and have the capacity to get up-to-speed quickly.  They will be self-sufficient professional who is results oriented and is exceptional with details and follow-through. As a data-driven foundation, we also seek a candidate who can leverage technology to quantitatively evaluate Scholar needs and recommend/implement efficient and effective scalable solutions.

The ideal candidate will possess experience/skills in the following functional areas:

Communications Outreach and Advisement: 

  • Strong understanding and knowledge of how to obtain best results from web, email, print, and digital communications (e.g. social media platforms, Canva, email campaign platforms)
  • Experience writing content for peer audiences (e.g. college students and/or college alumni)
    Comfortable leading conversations with students and alumni via phone, text, and email

Execution:

  • Strong project management, prioritization, and multi-tasking required
  • Commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines while working well under pressure
  • Maturity to lead work both independently and externally (e.g. with employers, third-party vendors, etc.)

Other qualifications include but are not limited to: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of relevant student-based experience recommended
  • Experience working with college students or high school students in a college readiness capacity (e.g., college orientation, counseling, advising, or closely related field)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Capability to use technology on a daily basis
  • Able to collaborate well with interdepartmental teams (e.g., Operations and Communication team member, as well as others in the Foundation)
  • Excellent planning, evaluation and assessment, time management, marketing, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to think strategically about diverse student populations in an effective and empowering manner
