Girls on the Run – Program Coordinator Job Description

Girls on the Run Mission: To inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum, which creatively integrates running.

The Position – The Program Coordinator plays a vital role in expanding our impact across Spokane County by managing and growing our core programming, including Girls on the Run, Heart & Sole, and Camp GOTR. This position starts at 20 hours per week with strong potential to grow into a full-time (40 hours/week) role within one year as our programs expand. The Program Coordinator must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades through our innovative curriculum that combines physical activity with social-emotional learning.

Primary Responsibilities

Program Management (40%)

  • Coordinate program delivery at existing sites, ensuring consistency and quality
  • Manage seasonal program schedules and Camp GOTR offerings
  • Support the launch of Heart & Sole programming for middle school students
  • Monitor basic program metrics and maintain accurate records
  • Conduct essential site visits to support coaches
  • Assist in curriculum implementation
  • Coordinate end-of-season celebrations and 5K events

Coach and Volunteer Management (30%)

  • Support recruitment and training of volunteer coaches
  • Coordinate coach certification and background check processes
  • Organize coach training sessions
  • Maintain regular communication with coaches throughout the season
  • Track coach training and certification requirements

Community Outreach (20%)

  • Maintain relationships with current school and community partners
  • Represent GOTR at key community events
  • Support basic marketing and promotional efforts
  • Assist in identifying potential new program sites

Administrative Support (10%)

  • Process program registrations
  • Manage program equipment and supplies inventory
  • Assist with basic program reporting needs
  • Support grant documentation requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field; or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in youth development, education, or related field
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Ability to comprehend and effectively communicate issues surrounding empowerment, self-esteem, body image, and whole-person health
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Clean driving record and ability to pass background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with Girls on the Run or similar youth development programs
  • Background in physical education or coaching
  • Knowledge of the Spokane County community and school systems
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms
  • Experience with program registration systems

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move program supplies (up to 25 pounds)
  • Standing and walking for extended periods during events
  • Travel throughout Spokane County to various program sites

Schedule and Work Environment

  • 20 hours per week, with strong potential to grow to full-time (40 hours/week) within one year
  • Hybrid work environment with both office and remote options
  • Flexible schedule with some evenings and weekends required
  • Hours may increase during peak program seasons
