Job Announcement: Chief Communications Officer

The Chief Communications Officer (CCO) serves on the leadership team, providing strategic direction for the organization’s communications, public relations, and strategic messaging efforts. This role ensures that the organization is positioned as a trusted and knowledgeable source of information and analysis among lawmakers, media, partners, and donors to influence policy change, enhance visibility, and support growth. The CCO will lead all external communications strategies to ensure alignment with the mission, legislative priorities, and fundraising goals, and will supervise the Graphic and Social Media Manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, marketing, or related discipline.
  • At least 5 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., director or VP of communications).
  • Proven ability to lead and manage diverse teams.
  • Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations is strongly preferred.
  • Proven record of developing and implementing successful communication strategies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic message management and storytelling, preferably related to strategic advocacy and policy change.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience in preparing policy briefs, reports, and presentations for various audiences.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

Work Environment

  • Primarily an office setting, with local, state-wide, and national travel for meetings, events, and site visits.

Salary Range: $85,000-$95,000 DOE
Department: Executive Leadership, Communications
Reports to: Executive Director
Supervisory Role: Yes
