Description

The legislation made reforms to the State’s parole system that will save the State money. These savings will be invested in two demonstration sites, in North Aurora and Southeast Colorado Springs. This funding will support grant and small business loan strategies to improve public safety in these communities.

The Denver Foundation was chosen by the State to administer the grant strategy for this program, which is called Transforming Safety. The Pikes Peak Community Foundation is assisting The Denver Foundation with the Transforming Safety grant program in Southeast Colorado Springs. The grant strategy is based on the premise that communities are safer when they are connected to one another and can respond to community needs through effective services and programs. The legislation placed the responsibility for determining the grant priorities for each community, as well as the specific boundaries of North Aurora and Southeast Colorado Springs for the purposes of determining grant eligibility, in the hands of local planning teams from each community.
