About the Position: The Policy Associate, Voter Approved Children’s Funds will support Children’s Funding Project’s work to establish and promote voter-approved children’s funds (VACFs). Specifically, the Policy Associate will assist the Manager, Voter-Approved Children’s Funds and Vice President, Strategy and Advocacy with providing technical assistance and peer learning opportunities to communities working to establish VACFs through local ballot measures, and with planning and organizing Children’s Funding Project’s Children’s Funding Institute, which takes place every 18 months. Additionally, the Policy Associate will support knowledge management and documentation around established VACFs. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Manager, Voter-Approved Children’s Funds.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Monitor and track the progress, needs, and outcomes of existing and prospective VACFs throughout the United States.
Draft briefs, fact sheets, tools, and other materials to support local advocates in Children’s Funding Project’s ballot measure cohort. Topics for these materials may range from specific processes of local ballot measure work to local public financing to elements of child and youth policy.
Coordinate technical assistance for members of Children’s Funding Project’s network of advocates, ballot measure committees, and other stakeholders pursuing or administering voter-approved children’s funds. This will include scheduling, organizing, documenting, and participating in calls, webinars, meetings, and other events.
Support the planning and execution of an in-person Children’s Funding Institute (a 100-150 person peer learning event).
Write for a variety of audiences, with a focus on documenting the journeys, outcomes, and activities of existing and prospective VACFs.
Provide administrative and other support to Action team staff, including note-taking, scheduling, and knowledge management tasks.
Contribute to other projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Post-secondary coursework in a relevant area (ex. public policy, education, political science) and/or early career experience in a related profession (ex. child/youth policy, community organizing or campaign coordination, or direct service work with children and youth, etc.)
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite (e.g., using Gmail, Google Docs, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint)
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail (e.g., experience editing documents, organizing personal paperwork)
Experience with systems that document and organize large amounts of information (e.g. file systems, CRMs)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (e.g., experience facilitating meetings, explaining procedures, writing essays, preparing and delivering PowerPoint presentations)
Ability to explain complex concepts in a manner that can be understood by a broad audience
Team-oriented attitude with an ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a remote environment (e.g., experience completing group projects at school, co-developing and editing documents or presentations online, taking online courses)

EXPERIENCE WITH OR DESIRE TO LEARN:

Child and youth financing policies and strategies
Experience with electoral campaigns and/or an advocacy-focused organization a plus
Event planning and management
Learning community development and management

Location: Remote with ability to travel. Work may be performed from anywhere in the United States

Compensation: This full-time, exempt position falls into the Associate level of our salary structure. Although the full salary range for the position is $55,000-$65,000, we expect the hiring range to be between $55,000 and $60,000, based on skills, experience, and internal equity. Children’s Funding Project also offers a generous benefits package, a great (and growing!) team, and a working environment that emphasizes professional development and growth.
