Bio & Information

Sonia M. Toledo founded Dignity of Children, Inc. in 2008 with the vision of creating programs that would support families holistically. She is a PhD candidate with more than 25 years of experience working in the after-school field, building quality programming for students in elementary through high school during out of school time. Sonia has worked for Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA, Children’s Aid Society, Child Care Inc., and has served as the President of After School Works NY. When Sonia founded Dignity of Children, Inc., she decided that the best approach for child and youth development was to educate adults in order to help them create environments for children that would make them feel emotionally safe while allowing them to develop their self-worth. Over the years Dignity of Children, Inc., a certified MWBE, has served child care programs across New York City & State leaving each client satisfied and ready to return for more of Sonia’s exceptional child and youth development trainings.

In January 2021 Sonia launched IDEAS Empowered By Youth, a project-based learning program designed to revolutionize education by helping young people imagine and execute solutions to real-world problems. IDEAS helps children and youth develop 21st-century skills empowering them to discover their passions early and live from the heart while striving to make a difference in the world. IDEAS helps young people develop and practice creativity, critical reasoning, problem-solving, collaboration, social and emotional intelligence. It is designed to ignite their imagination, spark their desire to learn, and empower them to become leaders in their communities. IDEAS Empowered by Youth is designed to facilitate positive social change in the world by creating possibilities for young people to learn, grow, and express themselves while working on solving problems they care about.
