Description

PURPOSE:
The purpose of this grant is to honor the memory of Dr. James Gates, past executive director of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, by providing electronic student memberships for prospective teachers of mathematics at all levels, Prek-12. Dr. Gates served the council as Executive Director for 31 years and was most concerned with membership and member services in his tenure. To honor that service, this award funds NCTM electronic student memberships.

GRADES: Students in their final year of a teacher preparation/certification programs at colleges and universities

GRANT AMOUNT: Maximum of $490 in funding to support up to 10 student electronic memberships at
$49.00 per membership

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS:
• Leaders of teacher preparation/certification programs who
▪ are NCTM members.
▪ actively teach in a teacher education program that certifies teacher candidates in mathematics, mathematics education, or elementary education.
• No institution is eligible to submit more than one Opening Gates for Prospective Teachers award in one application period.
