The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2019 Expansion of Practitioner Education (Short Title: Prac-Ed) grant. The purpose of this program is to expand the integration of substance use disorder (SUD) education into the standard curriculum of relevant healthcare and health services education programs. Through the mainstreaming of this education, the ultimate goal is to expand the number of practitioners to deliver high-quality, evidence-based SUD treatment. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) 2017 data indicate that an unacceptably high 92% of individuals who meet criteria for needing SUD treatment do not receive it. SAMHSA is beginning the implementation of this program as one of the many steps to reduce barriers to accessing and providing care.
